YunnanSourcing is an online tea retailer specializing in authentic Chinese teas, particularly pu-erh, black, green, and oolong varieties sourced directly from Yunnan Province. Founded by Scott Wilson in 2004, the company has grown into a popular destination for tea enthusiasts seeking high-quality, region-specific teas.
What makes YunnanSourcing different from other tea shops?
YunnanSourcing stands out for its direct sourcing model. The company works closely with farmers and tea factories in Yunnan, ensuring freshness and authenticity. Many products are pressed into cakes or bricks, a traditional format for aging pu-erh. Their extensive catalog includes rare and aged teas, appealing to both beginners and connoisseurs.
How do you choose the right tea from YunnanSourcing?
Start by exploring their bestsellers or sampler sets, which offer a low-risk way to taste different styles. Read customer reviews and detailed product descriptions, which often include harvest dates and tasting notes. For pu-erh, decide between raw (sheng) and ripe (shou) based on your preference for bold, earthy flavors or fresh, floral notes.
Does YunnanSourcing ship internationally?
Yes, YunnanSourcing ships worldwide from warehouses in China and the United States. Shipping times vary by destination, and they offer multiple carriers. International customers should check customs policies for tea imports. The site also provides tracking and responsive customer service.
What are the most popular teas at YunnanSourcing?
Their most popular offerings include ancient tree pu-erh, Yunnan black tea (dian hong), and jasmine green tea. They also carry a range of teaware and accessories. Seasonal releases and limited-edition cakes often sell out quickly, so signing up for their newsletter can help you stay informed.
